History

The Coeur d’Alene Eagles was founded on October 1, 1903. For the first 42 years of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles history the meetings were held in rented space within a three-block area of the Coeur d’Alene Area. The Coeur d’Alene Eagles purchased the Otterson block (209 -211 Sherman Ave) in 1948. The Otterson block was built by a local pioneer Mrs. Minnie Otterson. Before the Coeur d’Alene Eagles purchased the building it was  a dry goods and merchantile business with professional offices located on the second floor. The building was started in mid 1905 and finished in early 1906. After the Mercantile closed in the 20’s the main floor was taken over and turned into the four L social club on the west half and furniture store occupied the east half. In 1939, the Coeur d’Alene Eagles lease rooms in the building to hold meetings. In 1948, the Aerie purchased building. After the purchase of the building the Aerie leadership made plans to renovate the building. These plans included a 22′-0″ addition to the rear of the building and a complete overhaul of the interior of the building. This renovation created a banquet room, kitchen, and recreation room in the basement. The street level floor was turned into a social room.  The renovation was completed in July of 1949.

The Aerie operated with the 1949 design until 2008 until the Aerie Membership decided to remodel the streel level floor, creating its current layout. This is the layout that currently exists. The Coeur d’Alene Eagles has been in its current location ever since.
